Musicographics

"Musicographics" is a project dedicated to experimenting and producing graphic scores and graphic notations or "musicographics". Founded by Murat Ali Cengiz, architect and musician, in late 2018, the project aims to explore different possibilities and create new languages for musicographics.

No Musicians' Land

The theme of "No Musicians' Land" is the Turkish musicians around the globe, who has left their country in pursuit of music. For one week, we, 29 Turkish professional musicians living in Tokyo, Berlin, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Stuttgart, Strasbourg, Oslo, Den Haag, Prague, took turns and tuning in to the live stream in Sabanci museum, creating a never ending sound. The recordings of the live performance was exhibited for an extra 60 days as a part of Marina Abramovic's "FLUX" exhibition. Click for the performances during the COVID lockdown.

Murat Ali Trio

Murat Ali Trio entails a hard focus on creating a musicscape that tells clear stories. It aims for memorable moments that the audience can take back home. The compositions are informed by a mix of Turkish folk rhythms, ECM-like classically inspired harmonies and minimalistic music.

The line up consists of: Murat Ali Cengiz (TR) on piano, Andrea Caruso (IT) on double bass and Gabi Matei (RO) on drums.

"Nirengi" duo

Turkish pianist and composer Murat Ali Cengiz has been performing both solo and as a bandleader at various renowned venues across Europe. Dutch jazz guitarist Prashant Samlal has released 2 albums as a bandleader and has been considered a distinct voice among the new generation jazz musicians in the Netherlands. Together the piano/guitar duo will collaborate on musical trip of improvisation and original compositions. The duo composes music with flowing melodic lines interwoven with exciting harmonies that draw inspiration from contemporary jazz, classical music, Turkish music, rock and various art forms.
